The EU is at a historic peak: record volumes of gas reserves in storage

European countries have successfully filled underground gas storage facilities 90% before the end of the summer, reaching the historical maximum of filling. To date, the EU gas storage facilities concentrated 109.779 billion cubic meters of gas, which exceeds the previous historic maximum by 3.2 billion cubic meters.

This indicates the successful use of alternatives to Russian gas and the ability of the European Union to prepare in advance for the heating season. It is calculated that the achievement of 90% of fullness was planned by the European Commission for the middle of November.

In 2021, the share of Russian gas in the energy mix was 45-48%, but in the third quarter of 2023 it fell to 13%. It is also noted that gas prices have stabilized at about $ 300 per thousand cubic meters, which has been the average price over the last 12 years.

The reports of the ENTSOG and Gazprom gas transportation group have a reduction in the average daily exports of Russian gas to Europe compared to the previous month. In the first half of this month, this volume was 82.5 million cubic meters, which is less than in October (88.4 million cubic meters). The total volume of Gazprom's supply to the European Union from November 1 to November 15 amounted to about 1.2 billion cubic meters, and exports since the beginning of the year amounted to approximately 24.4 billion cubic meters.
