The EU offers new rules for migrant deportation

The European Union has announced new initiatives aimed at increasing migrant deportation. Plans published on March 11 provide for the creation of so -called "return centers" in third countries and changes in the rules that will allow deportation of persons who have been denied asylum from all EU countries.

One of the main innovations is the introduction of general standards for EU countries, which allows the migration bodies of one Member State to ensure the execution of a deportation order issued by another country. This should guarantee that the decision to refuse asylum rendered throughout the country will operate throughout the European Union.

The President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen stressed that now only about 20% of the return decisions are actually leave Europe. She called it a number that is "too low" and called for decisive change.

In addition, the plan envisages the departure of those who have been refused asylum to third countries with which the EU will conclude readmission agreements. "The European system should clearly understand that when someone is issued to return, they need to leave not only the country but the entire EU," said Magnus Brunner, EU Commissioner on Migration.

According to the proposal, the "deportation centers" will only work for persons whose request for asylum has been rejected and will not apply to minors unaccompanied. Brunner stressed that agreements should take into account international human rights standards.

However, in order to implement this EU plan, the cooperation of the migrant countries must be cooperated in order to agree to the readmission of their citizens. It is recognized that it is still necessary to work on improving this process.
