The European Union has announced the allocation of € 170 million to strengthen the borders of countries bordering Russia and Belarus. This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen, emphasizing the importance of supporting the efforts of these states.
Financing will be aimed at protecting the borders of six countries:
- Finland,
- Baltic countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia),
- Poland,
- Norway.
The President of the European Commission noted their contribution to the region's security:
"They courageously protect our common borders from all forms of threats coming from Russia and Belarus," said Ursula von Der Lyen.
The allocated funds will be directed at:
- Increasing the technical support of border guards,
- Strengthening infrastructure on the border,
- Improving coordination between countries to respond to potential threats.
