The EU is interested in graphite production in Ukraine

The European Union plans to implement a number of joint projects with Ukraine in the field of critical raw materials. In particular, Europeans are interested in graphite production, which can become a strategically important resource for the EU industry. This was announced by the European Commissioner for Industrial Strategy Stefan Sezhurne on February 26 during a speech in Brussels.

According to him, Ukraine and the EU can launch the first projects in March 2025. The basis for this is a memorandum of understanding, which was signed in 2021.

The EU and Ukraine Agreement on Critical Raw Materials provides for the development of cooperation in the field of production and processing of strategic resources that are required for the European industry. One of the key minerals is graphite that is actively used in the production of batteries, electronics and other high -tech industries.

"On the basis of this Agreement, we can build partnerships, including specific projects, including graphite production, which can potentially provide up to 10% of Europe's needs by 2030," Sezhurne said.

The European Commission is actively looking for new sources of strategic minerals to reduce the dependence on supply from China and other countries. Ukraine, having significant mineral deposits, can play a key role in providing the EU with the necessary resources.

Sezhurne also announced that official announcements would be made in March on the plan of development of raw materials, first production and marking of the projects by the European Commission.
