The European Commission supports the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen in his post on the social network X on June 27.
According to her, Ukraine, despite the full -scale war, has not stopped implementing the reforms and continues to fulfill its obligations to European integration. She called this progress as a testament to the deep determination of the Ukrainian people.
Von Der Liaien emphasized that the process of accession to the European Union is based on merit, and therefore, since Ukraine has done its part of work, now the answer from the European side is now in turn.
The President of the European Commission separately noted that, against the background of continuous aggression by Russia, Ukraine not only retains institutional stability, but also demonstrates the ability to reform in difficult conditions. This, in her opinion, further enhances arguments in favor of opening a cluster.
She stressed that Ukraine deserves to move forward in its desire for full EU membership. According to von Der Lyen, the opening of the first block of negotiations will be not only a technical solution, but a political signal of unity and support.
The issue of opening negotiations between Ukraine and the EU is discussed in the context of the overall strategy of the Union. After granting Ukraine the status of a candidate in 2022, the country has assumed a number of reform obligations, in particular in the field of justice, anti -corruption struggle, national minorities and legislative approximation to European norms.
The official decision to open a cluster of negotiations may be made at the nearest European Union summit, subject to consensus among all Member States.
