The European Union plans to introduce new sanctions against the Russian Federation on February 24

The European Union is prepared for the introduction of new restrictions on the Russian Federation because of its large -scale military aggression against Ukraine. It is planned to announce a new black list on February 24, on the day of the second anniversary of a full -scale invasion.

According to several EU diplomats, in conversation with journalists, the sanction list will include "several dozen" of the Russian and Belarussian military, who participated in hostilities against Ukraine. "Mini-Sanctions" on Russian citizens who are related to illegal deportations and abductions of Ukrainian children will also be introduced.

It is mentioned that some companies outside the European Union will also appear in the Black List, which help Russia get prohibited weapons components despite existing international sanctions.

Earlier, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyayen reported to the European Parliament about the imposition of sanctions on a "symbolic" date on February 24.

EU embassies in Brussels will start talks on the list this Thursday. The publication noted that the list does not contain "no important points such as new EU embargo on Russian metals, liquefied gas or nuclear companies, as it had to be reconciled quickly" after the 12th Package of Sanctions against Russia on December 19 and February 24.

The EU Commission made a "black list" after consultation with Member States during the weekend.

Question regarding the introduction of the 13th Package of Sanctions against the Russian Federation

Earlier it was reported that the European Union has started discussing a new package of sanctions, which it intends to approve by February 24, 2024.

Possible sanctions were discussed on January 18 at a meeting of the Bloc Ambassadors, where Member States discussed how best to support Ukraine in the long run. However, reaching an agreement on the 13th Package of Sanctions by next month will be a difficult task, as it will take a week of negotiations.

The Ukrainian side, in turn, urged the EU to focus on preventing the entry of high -tech Western components into the hands of the Russian army.

Earlier, Western media reported that European aluminum producers, supported by four EU countries, insist that the EU introduced the embargo on cheap import of this metal from Russia as part of the expected sanctions package, which will celebrate two years from the moment of invasion of Ukraine.
