On Tuesday, May 6, another exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia took place. The negotiation process managed to return home 205 Ukrainian servicemen. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has informed about it in his Telegram channel.
“Today, Ukraine has returned 205 soldiers. Young boys and adult men of almost all kinds and families of troops. Mariupol defenders and the front line of the front. They were scattered across many Russian regions, imposed by the prison system with the only task - the abuse and destruction of humanity, ”the head of state said.
Zelensky thanked everyone who joined the liberation process, separately noting the role of the United Arab Emirates in reaching agreements.
The Coordination Headquarters on the Defense of Prisoners of Pursuing said that there were three officers and 202 soldiers and sergeants among the liberated. These are representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular the Navy, Air Forces, Airborne Assault troops, territorial defense forces, as well as fighters of the National Guard and the State Border Service.
The liberated defenders defended Ukraine in different directions: in Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhia, Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy and Kiev regions. Among them are Mariupol defense participants.
This exchange has become the fifth in 2025 and 64th since the beginning of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. In total, 4,757 Ukrainian citizens have been dismissed since March 2022.
Everyone will provide the necessary medical care, clothing, hygiene products, as well as payments - cash during captivity and one -time financial assistance. Defenders will be able to undergo rehab and adaptation after prolonged captivity.
