Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump in seven key states that could determine the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, according to the latest polling data from Bloomberg News and Morning Consult.
The results of the poll show that Harris has not only tied with Trump, but also narrowed his lead on several important economic issues. While most voters still believe their economic situation was better under the Trump presidency, they are less likely to blame Harris for the current economic instability seen under the Biden administration.
Specifically, 7% more voters in contested states trust Harris to support the middle class than Trump. Harris also has a 4% lead on housing costs, while Biden trailed Trump by 6%. On inflation, the election's most important economic issue, Harris cut Trump's lead to 11%. However, when it comes to gas prices and the performance of the stock market, voters still trust Trump more.
Harris' positions on many important issues remain unclear, adding to the uncertainty ahead of the Sept. 10 debate between her and Trump. It's important to note that Harris has already moved away from some of her longtime progressive views, such as banning fracking and decriminalizing illegal border crossings, which could affect how voters perceive her policies.
