The founder of the popular Telegram messenger Pavel Durov was detained in France, where he was charged with 12 crimes. The detention was the result of an investigation conducted by the National Unit of Cybercrime and the National French fraud department.
Durov is accused of not wanting to cooperate to investigate a number of crimes. According to the law enforcement officer, Durov was "passive" about cybercrime and financial crimes in Telegram. He is still in custody.
According to the French Prosecutor's Office, Durov is accused of 12 articles:
- Complicity in the administration of online platform to enable illegal transactions.
- Refusal to provide information on requests of the authorized bodies.
- Complicity in storing images of pornographic pornographic.
- Complicity in the dissemination of images of juvenile pornographic nature with an organized group.
- Complicity in the spread of drugs.
- Complicity in the distribution of hacker programs.
- Complicity in fraud committed by an organized group.
- Creation of an organized group for the purpose of committing crimes punished by imprisonment for a term of at least five years.
- Concealment of crimes of an organized group.
- Provision of cryptographic services aimed at providing privacy without compulsory declaration.
- Illegal provision of cryptography beyond necessary to ensure confidentiality.
- Illegal import of cryptography beyond necessary to ensure confidentiality.
Earlier, French President Emanuel Macron first commented on the arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in Paris. According to him, this decision is made by judges, not politicians, and France supports the freedom of expression within the law.
Instead, billionaire Ilon Musk reacted sarcastically to Durov's arrest.
"The point of view: now 2030 in Europe, and you will be executed for what you liked the meme," - wrote Musk a post about Durov's detention on the social network.
Recall that on the evening of August 24, the founder and CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov detained the French special services at the Le-Bourge Airport in the suburbs of Paris when he came out of his private jet.
