President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the preparation for the visit to the United States of America, noting that the initiative had come from the US side. The visit can be made on Friday, March 1, but format and details are still clarified.
“We were offered a visit. Offices work - what format when. There is a working date. Offices are in touch, ”Zelensky said when communicating with journalists on February 26.
The head of state stressed that the main issue in the negotiations in the United States will be the continuity of military and financial assistance to Ukraine.
"It is important for me to hear that the help of the US is not then, but now it will not be stopped ... And for me this is the main thesis for today," he said.
In addition, Zelensky emphasized the importance of coordinating positions between Kiev and Washington before the possible meeting of US President Donald Trump with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“I have a question and need very honest answers because we are in the war and have to understand what we can count on. That is why this visit to Putin is a very good signal, ”the President of Ukraine said.
Zelensky plans to raise a number of important issues, including:
- Will the US continue to provide Ukraine with military assistance?
- Will Ukraine be able to buy weapons directly in the US?
- Will Ukraine use frozen Russian assets to purchase weapons and economic recovery?
- Will sanctions against Russia be extended?
After the trip to the United States, Zelensky plans to visit London to meet with the UK Prime Minister and other European partners. It is expected that this meeting will discuss further steps of support of Ukraine from the United Kingdom and Europe.
