UN report: the situation in Ukraine during the war

The Office of the Supreme Commissioner of the United Nations (UHPL) has released its report on the situation in Ukraine, identifying the most relevant problems that arise against the background of a long war.

For the period from August to November this year, 576 people and injuries of 1864 were injured in Ukraine, according to the UN information. Looking at the figures, 86% of these victims fall into the territory controlled by Ukraine, including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions.

According to the report of the UHLC, the main deaths among civilians and damage to civilian infrastructure arose as a result of artillery shelling and strokes from rocket launchers (RSSS) not far from the front line. It is important to note that almost a quarter of civilian casualties took place away from the front line through rocket strokes and drones-Kamikade, launched by the Russian forces.

The report also notes that compared to the same period last year, the number of casualties among civilians decreased due to the evacuation of the population from the frontline areas and the effective work of Ukrainian air defense systems. However, the human rights situation remains annexed.

"In the last four months, there have been gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, which entails serious consequences," said Daniel Belle, head of the UZHL Mission in Ukraine, Daniel Belle. She noted the facts of torture, sexual abuse, murder of civilians, arbitrary detentions and other encroachments.

Significant destruction of civil infrastructure, including energy generating facilities and grain infrastructure structures, as well as mines, leave long -term negative consequences for Ukraine.

In the context of the continuation of the war, the UPLL notes that Russia has moved to the forced implementation of its management system in the occupied areas, which is a violation of international humanitarian law. Instead of maintaining the current situation, Russia acts as a state that establishes sovereignty over the occupied territory, conducting "elections" and applying Russian legislation.

The authors of the report called on Russia to immediately return all deported and displaced persons, including children and persons with disabilities, and refrain from changing the civil status of children displaced from Ukraine, including their citizenship and legal guardians.

Recently, Presidential Head Andriy Yermak accused Russia of systematic abduction of Ukrainian children during the war. However, due to the lack of reliable information, Ukraine has a limited opportunity to determine the further fate of stolen children.
