Trump's administration is preparing a large -scale USAID reform

The US Presidential Administration Donald Trump has developed proposals for fundamental reform of US International Assistance, including USAID. According to Reuters, citing a memorandum, the initiative is aimed at improving the efficiency of assistance and reducing costs.

According to the document, the current USAID structure is too costly and has not been able to reduce the dependence of other countries on the United States. The plan envisages the creation of a new US Agency for International Humanitarian Assistance, which should replace the existing structure.

Among the key changes are offered:

  • Elimination of almost twenty USAID Bureau.
  • Reorientation of funding to a "narrower and strategic focus".
  • Measured approach to assessing international assistance results.
  • Counteracting global competitors, including China.

"This plan offers a rethinking structure of US International Assistance and a set of operating principles that promise measured America, as well as produce American soft power, increasing our national security, and opposing global competitors, including China," the memorandum said.

The document was signed by the new USAID executives - CFO Kennene Jackson and Chief Operating Director Jeremy Levin, who are responsible for the implementation of changes. The proposed reform emphasizes the Trump's desire to make the US international assistance more purposeful and beneficial to America's national interests.
