The New York Times reports that the United States is building their military bases in waters near China in order to create the Line of the First Chain of Islands to contain Chinese naval forces. The Assistant Security Minister for Security in the Asia-Pacific Region, Eli Ratner, emphasizes that in order to achieve this, it was decided to move to the strategy of placing troops on many small bases instead of large military complexes.
According to the newspaper, the United States is actively placed winged missiles, marine infantry units and aerodromes and naval bases in the territory of their allies in the Asia-Pacific region to restrain China. This covers a military base on Okinawa Island, the presence of US troops in South Korea and the creation of a new military infrastructure in the Philippines.
