People's Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the Servant of the People David Arahamia commented on the issue of elections in martial law. In his recent post on Telegram, which he made after a two -month pause, the politician again confirmed his position: elections during the war are impossible.
Arahamia noted that elections in Ukraine may take place no earlier than six months after the end of martial law. He confirmed this statement with the conclusions approved during the ninth meeting within the framework of Jean Monet's Dialogers, which took place in November 2023 in Turia Pasika in Transcarpathia. "The leaders of all factions and groups have concluded an agreement that the elections will not take place until the end of six months after the end of the martial law," he wrote. David Arahamia also recommended everyone to read the document he refers.
It should be noted that these conclusions are not an official normative legal act, but only the result of exchange of views between participants of the meeting, so they have no binding force. They are only a recommendation for further action. However, such informal agreements have already become the basis for formulating a position on possible elections in the future. The participants of this meeting also discussed the need to develop a special law that will regulate the first post -war elections. This law must be drawn up after martial law to ensure democratic standards during the election process.
During a full -scale war, which has been ongoing since 2022, the issue of elections has been repeatedly raised in society, and Arahamia stressed that it is important to have a clear understanding when and under what conditions the elections can take place in a country that is experiencing such a complex crisis.
