The results of the latest public opinion survey in Germany showed that the vast majority of Germans support the idea of restriction or complete termination of weapons export to Israel. This is due to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Sector and the controversial military response of Israel to Hamas attack in October 2023.
The survey conducted by the Infratest Dimap Institute for the ARD channel swept 1292 voters in Germany. According to its results, 43% of respondents advocate restrictions on the supply of Israeli weapons, and 30% for complete export cessation. Only 17% of the Germans support the continuation of weapons supply unchanged.
Moreover, 63% of respondents believe that Israel's military response to Hamas's terrorist attack was excessive, while only 18% consider the actions of the Israeli army adequate.
Also, almost three quarters of respondents (73%) believe that Israel's military actions have a negative impact on Palestine's civilian population, and this is unjustified.
In the context of these sentiments, the latest statements of German government officials have become more critical of Israel's actions in the Gaza Sector, which reflects the general concern among the country's population.
