This morning, April 3, Taiwan witnessed a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 points, which occurred about 18 kilometers south of Hualian. After the shocks, the destruction of houses in the city was recorded. The power of Taiwan and Japan issued a warning of a possible tsunami.
The Taiwan Earthquake Monitoring Service appreciated the magnitude of the element as 7.2, which makes this earthquake the strongest in Taiwan since 1999. In 1999, an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude, located south of Taipei, led to the death of 2400 people and injure 10,000 people.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency also issued a warning of a possible tsunami with a height of waves up to 3 meters on the islands of Miyakodzima and Okinawa. Japan's media also reported possible waves up to 3 meters high in some areas of Okinawa prefecture, located south of Tokyo at a distance of approximately 1000 miles.
People were urged to refrain from approaching the coast and evacuated to areas located at higher altitude. The first tsunami 30 cm high has already been fixed on Jonaguna, located 110 km from Taiwan, but Japan's authorities warned of the possibility of further higher waves.
