According to a Meta Gallup survey conducted in more than 140 countries, almost every fourth person in the world, which is more than a billion people, feels very or lonely enough. These indicators cause serious fears and indicate the global problem of loneliness.
The study has covered about 77% of adults in the world, with the exception of China, the second largest population of the country whose study was conducted. According to the survey, 24% of people aged 15 years of age reported that they feel very or quite lonely.
It should be noted that the level of loneliness was the highest among young adults, where 27% of people aged 19 to 29 have admitted that they feel lonely. Older people, at the age of 65 and older, reported the lowest loneliness, only 17%.
Interestingly, more than half of adults aged 45 and older noted that they did not feel alone. However, most people under the age of 45 have admitted that at least they feel loneliness.
The study also found that in 79 out of 142 countries women reported a higher level of loneliness compared to men. Gender differences in the level of loneliness varied depending on the cultural context of the country.
These results emphasize increasing fears about the impact of loneliness on overall health, including its connection with mental and physical condition, as well as with the risk of premature death. They correspond to the World Health Organization and the recommendations of the US Chief Surgeon.
The study was conducted from June 2022 to February 2023 and covered about 1000 people in each of 142 countries through telephone surveys and personal conversations.
According to experts, loneliness can be the result of different life circumstances, and it can have a serious impact on the health and well -being of a person. It is important to pay attention to this problem and take measures to solve it in different age groups and socio -cultural contexts.
