Brazil stated that she would not join the United States Trade War, despite the introduction of the United States 25% of duties on imports of steel and aluminum. The Minister of Institutional Relations of Brazil, Aleshandre Padilla at a press conference, noted that the government of the country did not discuss the possibility of conflict with Washington.
"President Luis Inasio Lula da Silva has always stated very clearly that the Trade War did not benefit anyone," Padilla said. He also added that Brazil stands for strengthening trade relations with all its partners, not participating in trade disputes.
This position of Brazil is important because the country is the second largest exporter of steel in the United States after Canada. However, despite the duties introduced, Brazil seeks to avoid escalation of conflict and continue the development of economic ties with the US and other countries.
