After two years from the beginning of a full -scale invasion, British politicians have never implemented their ideas on the confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. According to Politico, sanctions lawyers and experts in the political sphere are convinced that there are not enough grounds for such confiscation.
They emphasize that although political rhetoric can support the idea of confiscation of Russian assets, in practice, the United Kingdom will probably not take this step because of the lack of legal grounds and potential consequences.
British legislation complicates the confiscation procedure, and given the limited evidence, connection with the Russian state becomes a key factor in considering legal aspects. Experts also point out that blocking Russian assets can affect international negotiations on conflict resolution by causing stress in international relations and response from Russia.
Despite this, there is some international support for the transfer of income from Russian assets to Ukraine, but the implementation of this measure faces serious difficulties due to legal and political restrictions.
