If the bacterial level remains dangerous, the organizers have two options. They can cancel swimming and make duatlon from triathlon, leaving only running and bike food, or transferring it to a later date.
Bathing in the Seine, which divides the city into parts, has been banned since 1923. In 1990, Jacques Shirac, then Mayor of Paris, stated that he would make the river clean enough to enter it, but he could not.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Paris-2024 refused to apologize to the participants of the competition when the Mail Sport asked him if he would do it.
"We need to wait. We do not come up with scripts ... We have done everything possible in relations with international federations and government agencies to reach the goal - a swim in the Seine, which will become a fantastic heritage. We are still optimistic, we have a plan of action in case of unforeseen circumstances," he said.
