The US has temporarily suspended military assistance to Ukraine to review its further funding. This was stated by a spokeswoman for the White House Caroline Levitt on Fox News. She stressed that the current cessation of support is a pause for review, and the final decision on future financing has not yet been made.
One of the reasons for this step was the recent statement of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. The Head of State declared the readiness of Kiev to sit at the negotiation table with Russia to reach a long -term peace. In the White House, this statement was regarded as a positive step in the right direction. At the same time, Zelensky called an unsuccessful meeting in the White House, which also attracted the attention of the US administration.
Levitt also confirmed that the negotiations on the mineral agreement between the US and Ukraine are ongoing. However, she did not specify the details about the possible terms of signing the document or the conditions of future cooperation in this area.
The pause in the US financing takes place against the background of Washington's political struggle to further support Kiev. Some American politicians have doubts about the expediency of providing new military assistance packages without tightly monitoring their use. Republicans in Congress have repeatedly demanded clearly reporting on the distribution of funds and supply of weapons to Ukraine.
