Black holes are not as we thought: quantum gravity explained their structure

Physicists offered a revolutionary model of black holes, according to which they do not exist singularity. The study published in Physics Letters B shows that if you modify the equation of the general theory of Einstein's relativity, instead of the endless curvature of space in the center of the black hole, the area of ​​space-time will simply be determined.

What is singularity and why is this a problem? Singularity is a point in the center of a black hole, where space-time is distorted to infinity. This means that there are no laws of physics, and science cannot accurately describe what is happening inside a black hole. Quantum mechanics excludes the existence of singularity, while the general theory of relativity implies its existence. Physicists used the concept of quantum gravity, which combines the laws of quantum mechanics and gravity. They modified Einstein equations, adding an endless number of additional factors that describe gravitational effects at the microscopic level. The results showed that in this approach the singularity disappears, and the center of the black hole becomes a common, although a strongly distorted area of ​​space-time.

It is impossible to look into the center of the black hole, but scientists can look for signatures in gravitational waves that occur during the collision of black holes. If this theory is confirmed, it will change the understanding of the nature of black holes and the fundamental laws of the universe.
