Will the transition to the summer time in Ukraine?

Despite the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the Law on the cancellation of the transition to the summer, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not yet signed the relevant document. The said bill, which had to finally consolidate the country's leave in winter (Eastern European UTC+2), has been waiting for the head of state for more than six months.

The Verkhovna Rada supported the speaker's initiative Ruslan Stefanchuk, adopting Law No. 4201 on August 21, 2024. Since then, the President has never signed it, and the deadlines for veting have already passed. The interlocutors from the presidential team reported that the law will not be signed, although not vetoed, since it is "the initiative of the speaker" and it is not advisable to offend it. But the consequences of such a decision were not delayed. After deep calculations, it turned out that the abolition of the transition to the summer can seriously affect the economy of Ukraine, led to "several billion losses". In addition, petitions of Ukrainians who oppose this law have also become an important factor in making such a decision.

Due to the uncertainty with the signature of the law, Ukrainians again have to transfer their clock for one hour. According to tradition, this will take place on March 30, 2025, at 3 o'clock in the morning. Smartphones and other electronic devices will switch to the summer time automatically, but mechanical watches and button phones will have to be translated by hand.

Despite the contradictory thoughts and objections, the issue of cancellation of the transition to the summer continues to remain relevant for Ukraine, and the final decision will remain with the President.
