The number of victims of the fire at the Kartalkai ski resort in Turkey has increased to 76 people. This was announced by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikai on January 21, Haberturk reports. Earlier, 66 dead were reported.
According to the Minister, the person 52 of the victims have already been established, and the bodies of 45 dead were transferred to families. The rest of the dead remain unrecognized. Nine people were detained in the tragedy case, including the hotel.
The fire broke out on the night of January 21 at a 12-storey wooden hotel located in the province of Bolah. According to preliminary data, the fire emerged in the restaurant area on the fourth floor and quickly spread to the whole building. There were 234 guests at the time of the incident. Due to winter holidays, the hotel's filling was 80-90%.
The cause of the fire has not been established at this time, the investigation is underway. In connection with the tragedy on January 22, Turkey was declared a day of mourning.
The Kartalkai resort, where the tragedy occurred in the mountains of kerang, in the northwest of Turkey, 270 km from Istanbul. This popular winter resort attracts many tourists due to their picturesque landscapes and quality conditions for ski recreation.
