On April 8, 2025, an important delegation of the Belgium Government arrived in Kiev, which included Prime Minister Bart de Vaver, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Prevo and Defense Minister The Franken. The visit of Belgian representatives emphasizes the importance of political and military solidarity with Ukraine against the backdrop of the continuation of the war with Russia.
The visit program included a number of important meetings at the highest level, in particular, with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, the main emphasis of the visit was focused on international cooperation, hopes for the future and the need to support Ukraine in its struggle for independence and sovereignty.
One of the important parts of the visit was the trip of Belgium representatives to Bucha, one of the cities in the Kyiv region, which became a symbol of the cruelty of Russian troops. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Maxim Pravo, it was in Bucha three years ago that Ukrainian troops freed the city from the Russian occupation. Then the international community learned about terrible crimes against civilians: mass graves, torture, execution and burning of bodies.
Prevoy expressed shock from the fact that Russia continues to deny the facts of its war crimes, spreading misinformation and calling the atrocities in Bucha "hoaxing." He stressed that no lie could erase the truth written by blood. The minister also noted that Russia's cruelty is not limited to Buucie: from Mariupol to Izium, from Kramatorsk to Kherson - there is one painting everywhere: terror, torture and mass murder.
This visit was another demonstration that Belgium is standing side by side with Ukraine, supporting it in the international arena and facilitating justice. Predvo emphasized that Belgium, like the entire international community, should do everything possible in order for justice to prevail, and criminals suffered punishment.
In turn, the visit also focused on the future of Ukraine as part of the European community. Prevoy noted that Belgium seeks Ukraine to be free, sovereign and European country, and this visit is part of the wider support of it along the way.
