The Government of Ukraine expresses confidence in achieving consent with Hungary on the level of compliance with EU requirements for the protection of national minorities. Viceremierka Olga Stefanyshyn stated this at a press conference in Kiev, stating that the main focus is on ensuring the rights of Ukrainian citizens of Ukraine.
Viceremierka noted that the issue of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine has already been secured, and it does not take it as a serious problem, as it may seem to be the statements of the Hungarian government. Stephanyshyn also rejected the statement that the Hungarians were particularly affected by Russian aggression, emphasizing that the Greek minority in the Azov region felt much more.
"We share the issues of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine and the requirements of the Hungarian government, which puts this issue. Because the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine are secured," she said. Viceremierka also rejected the statements that the Hungarians were particularly affected by Russian aggression. "The Hungarian minority was much less affected than, say, the Greek minority of the Azov," she recalled.
At the same time, Viceremierka recognized the right of Hungary to block Ukraine's accession to the EU and called for not to consider the Hungarian issue as a major problem in expanding the EU. Note that Ukraine can overcome this challenge and achieve political understanding, Stephanishin emphasized that there was a dialogue with the EU to improve the protection of the Hungarian community in Ukraine.
In September, a roadmap was transferred, which included practical measures, such as providing Hungarian -language children with textbooks, as well as plans for changing legislation. Viceremierka emphasized that any legislative changes will not be about the knowledge of the Ukrainian language.
