Recently, there has been a significant increase in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Russia. However, these are not the expensive drones we are used to hearing. Instead, the Russian military introduced inexpensive and seemingly primitive "lawn mowers" on the battlefield. Despite their low cost, they have become a significant threat to the Ukrainian air defense forces.
Russian "lawn mowers" are miniature drones that could easily be collected on their knees. They are equipped with a Dle Engine 60 Chinese engine, which can be purchased in online stores for relatively low money. Despite its simplicity, this engine has a decent productivity, which makes "lawn mowers" suitable for various tasks.
The main task of these drones is to provoke the Ukrainian Air Defense forces and to identify their positions. Initially, they activate the air defense systems, causing the radar reaction. They then photograph the terrain and identify the positions of anti-aircraft missile complexes and radar stations. This information allows the Russian military to plan actions taking into account the exact location of Ukrainian air defense.
One of the key points made by these "lawn mowers" is so dangerous is their low cost. Each such drone costs only about $ 1.5 thousand. However, for the Ukrainian air defense forces, to knock down even such cheap UAVs is much more expensive. The cost of using anti -aircraft missiles, not to mention losses in case of beating, makes a "lawn mowing" a serious threat.
Aviation experts emphasize that the design of these drones is not something complex or mysterious. Anyone with some knowledge in this field can create a similar UAV. However, their simplicity and low cost make them so effective.
