Polish President Andrzej Duda assured the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili in his support, in particular in her European aspirations. During a telephone conversation with the leader of Georgia, Duda expressed his unwavering support for her leadership and the desire of the Georgian people for the United Europe. According to him, Georgians have an inalienable right to move to the EU, and new elections in the country may be released from the political crisis in the country, which will be held in accordance with the OSCE recommendations.
It happened against the background of growing protests in Georgia, which continued on November 28. They were provoked by the statement of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who announced the suspension of negotiations on accession to the EU by 2028. In response to these statements, Georgians went outside, demanding changes in the political course.
On December 22, Salome Zurabishvili gave the government a week to appoint a re -parliamentary election. This step was aimed at de -escalation of the situation in the country. However, the tension persists, and Prime Minister Iraklli Kobakhidze is already threatening Zurabishvilic prison unless she leaves her residence after the inauguration of her successor on December 29.
