Ex-Deputy Ilya Kivu was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison with confiscation

Today, the Lychakiv District Court of Lviv, in the form of a special court proceeding (in absentia), sentenced former People's Deputy from OPZZH Ilya Kyva to 14 years in prison with confiscation of property under numerous articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court found Ilya Kiva guilty of a number of serious criminal offenses, in particular, public calls for a violent change of the constitutional system and seizure of state power, high treason, use of symbols of the communist totalitarian regime, as well as public calls for aggressive war.

Prosecutors of the Lychakiv district court proved that Kiva is on the territory of the Russian Federation, which is a recognized aggressor state, and refuses to take part in the trial in Ukraine.

The latter has the opportunity to appeal the verdict within thirty days in the Lviv Court of Appeal.

After the start of a large-scale war, Ilya Kiva fled to Russia, where he took part in propaganda activities and expressed public support for aggression against Ukraine. In March 2022, the Verkhovna Rada stripped him of his mandate as a People's Deputy and charged him with encroachment on territorial integrity and treason.

Ilya Kyva's guilty plea and his conviction became another step in the direction of justice and defense of Ukraine's sovereignty in wartime conditions.
