Eurovision 2024 favourite: Meet Switzerland's Nemo and his chances of winning

Eurovision 2024, which will be held in Malmö, is less than a month away. Preparations for the reception of Eurofans are actively underway in Sweden. According to the current forecast of bookmakers, the singer Nemo, who represents Switzerland with the song "The Code", is claiming the victory in Eurovision 2024. His chances of winning as of April 12 are estimated at 25%.

Nemo's real name is Nemo Mettler. He was born in the small Swiss town of Bil Bien and is currently 24 years old. He showed an interest in music from childhood, starting with playing the violin and later mastered playing the piano and drums. Apart from these instruments, he also writes and produces songs for himself and other artists.

Nemo has received the prestigious Swiss Music Awards five times for his work. His song “Du”, released in 2017, reached number four on the chart during the year.

The musician also participated in a local vocal competition in Switzerland in 2021-2022, although then he took only fifth place.

It is important to note that Nemo identifies as a non-binary person, that is, someone who does not feel that he belongs to any of the gender categories. On his Instagram, he addressed his followers, asking them to call themselves "they".

"I haven't done it publicly, but some of you already know: I don't feel like a man or a woman. I'm just Nemo. I like to think of gender as a galaxy, imagining myself as a little star floating somewhere in the middle. This is how I feel best," wrote Nemo.

To participate in Eurovision 2024, Nemo was selected as part of the National Selection, where voting was not held. The winner was determined by a competent jury consisting of 240 members of the public jury and 30 international experts.

According to bookmakers, Nemo's biggest competitor is Croatia. The country is represented by the young artist Baby Lasagna with the song "Rim Tim Tagi Dim". Although he used to be the leader of predictions for a long time, he is now only in second place with a probability of victory of 16%. Italy is also in the top three - the young artist Angelina Mango, who will fight for victory with the song "La noia" and has a probability of victory of 13%.

Ukrainian singers Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona with the song "Teresa & Maria" were placed on the fourth step. Despite the fact that the duo won the National Selection by a wide margin, their song caused heated discussions. Some listeners condemned the performers for the image of Teresa, noting that she could have appropriated the funds received as a donation. However, the artists noted that the image was used as a symbol of kindness and mercy.

All Eurovision events will take place in Folkets Park. Three stages will be available for Eurofans — Euphoria Stage, Tattoo Stage and Dancing Queen Stage, where special guests will perform. Eurovision souvenirs, as well as food and drinks from around the world will be available on Friisgatan.

Ticket prices vary from UAH 500 for watching the semi-final rehearsals to UAH 3,000-13,000 for the opportunity to see the grand final live. Ukrainians will also be able to watch the online broadcast of Eurovision 2024 on Suspilne platforms, such as Youtube Suspilne and UA: Culture. The broadcast with translation will be available in the Diya application, and in the original language on the Eurovision YouTube channel.
