Finland is considering the possibility of deploying NATO troops on its territory

The new commander of the Finnish defense forces, Lieutenant General Yanne Yakkola said that there are no final decisions on this issue, but different options are being considered, such as extended educational activities, a rotational model and other activities.

According to him, Finland has strong defense forces, and at the moment there is no urgent need for troops. However, the possibility of NATO troops is not excluded.

Yakkola also noted that plans are currently being developed on how NATO will organize its command structure and how the Union forces can operate in Finland. In this regard, the issue of troops from other NATO countries in Finland is considered.

According to Jaaccol, there is no direct military threat to Finland, but it depends largely on the situation in Ukraine.

Finland is the only country where there are no troops from other NATO countries on a permanent basis. Until now, she has not asked for the constant presence of troops from other countries.

Yakkola began work in a new position on April 1, 2024.
