The head of the self -proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bjania left Sukhumi under the pressure of protesters who demand his resignation. It happened after he publicly refused to set his authority on November 15, despite the ultimatum of the opposition.
On the evening of November 15, the opposition gave the Bjana an hour to review its resignation decision. The protesters declared their intention to come to the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where the head of the republic was located. However, it became known that Bjania left the city.
Oppositionist Levan Mika reported that the negotiation process stopped through the presidential escape. Protesters claim that Bjania may be in the territory of the Russian military unit, but his press service denies this information.
Mika stated that if by the morning of Saturday, Bjana did not contact, the question of his resignation would be transferred to Parliament. According to local law, the President can be removed from office if this decision is supported by at least 2/3 of the deputies.
Protesters insist that Bjana's actions and his unwillingness to go to dialogue undermine stability in the region.
Mass protests in Abkhazia indicate a deep political crisis, which is exacerbated against the background of tense relations with Russia. The escape of the head of the Republic further complicates the situation, causing indignation among the opposition and the public.
