Myanmar's junta establishes mandatory military service for young citizens, probably to compensate for losses in the fight against promocratic forces and ethnic militias.
According to the law on compulsory conscription adopted in 2010, men aged 18 to 35 and women aged 18 to 27 are obliged to be military service. The duration of the service will be up to two years in peacetime and up to five - in emergency.
Representatives of the junta stated that every citizen should defend the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
Myanmar's military power came to power as a result of a coup in February 2021, but it failed to fully control the entire territory of the country. Since then, it has been fighting the promocratic forces and ethnic militias.
In particular, since October last year, when the opponents of the junta began coordinated offensive actions in the Eastern state of Shang, the army has a significant increase in losses due to an increase in the number of dead in armed conflicts and an increase in the number of soldiers who are captured.
