SpaceX staff, owned by a billionaire Ilon Mask, submitted an official petition asking for a new city called Starbase in the US state of Texas. This was the next stage in the development of the space empire Mask, which has long been seeking to create a full city for its employees and families, in particular in the area where the company is located.
Ilon Musk has repeatedly expressed the desire to build a new city for his companies, and the creation of Starbeise is an ambitious step towards the realization of this goal. SpaceX is actively expanding in Texas, in particular in the coastal part of the Southern Texas, where there is a key missile base of the company, a Kosmodrom in Boca-Chika. In recent years, Musk has moved many of California's companies to Texas, where not only the space industry but also other projects develops. Now he seeks to do what few of the industrial magnates have managed to create their own city that will become a center for SpaceX staff and their families. The petition, which was submitted to the local government of the Cameron County, aims to formally approve the Starbeise as a municipality. According to information provided in the petition, about 500 people are already living in the future of the city. In particular, 219 permanent residents and more than 100 children. The city will be located on an area of just less than 4 square kilometers near Bok-Chika beach, where SpaceX regularly tests and launches rockets.
One of the key conditions for the creation of Starbeise is local self -government, which will include the election of the mayor and two other officials. According to preliminary information, the mayor should be occupied by Gunnar Milburn, SpaceX's security manager, who has long been working in the company. The petition signed by SpaceX staff also states that the creation of the city will help to solve a number of practical issues. Given the remoteness of the area where the company's employees currently live, SpaceX already performs the functions of the city authorities, including the management of utilities, providing health care and organization of school education for children of employees.
SpaceX General Catherine manager, in her letter to the authorities, emphasized that the company seeks to develop Starbiss as an independent community that can maintain a comfortable and stable life for its residents. SpaceX is currently being considered in the Cameron County, where the relevant legal authorities and the election commission are examining whether the initiative meets the requirements for the creation of a new municipality. According to Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviino Jr., if the petition is approved, the election of the head of the Starbise may be appointed for 2025.
