IMO-2025: The national team of Ukraine is again among the world leaders in mathematics

At the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO-2025), the Ukrainian national team ranked 24th in the overall standings, gaining one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. Despite the difficult conditions of wartime, Ukrainian students demonstrate a stable return to the world mathematical elite.

On July 19, the OSINT analyst of the Informnapalm community Anton Pavlushko on his Facebook page. According to him, Ukraine is gradually returning to the usual level-within the top 10 or top 20 countries in the world in mathematics.

The team included students of Rusanovsky Lyceum of Kiev, who won four medals at once. The success of the ninth -grader Alexander Gorbunov, who won the silver medal, competing with the upper classes and entrants of the leading universities of the world. Pavlushko stressed that most participants in such competitions in the future are occupied by leading engineering positions in world IT companies or develop complex financial models in investment structures. The 2025 Olympiad also showed new trends in the educational migration of Ukrainian youth. In particular, an 18-year-old resident of Kiev Vladislav Gusinin, who now lives in Würzburg, won the bronze medal for Germany. Another bronze was brought by Ireland Kharkiv Vitaliy Galushko (Dublin), previously known for its victories at the Ukrainian Olympiads. Vladislav Levchenko spoke for the Sweden team, and Orest Sherko was part of Albania. The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the oldest and most prestigious mathematics Olympiad for students, held annually since 1959. It involves the best young mathematicians from more than 100 countries. Each team consists of a maximum of six participants under 20 years. Participants solve three tasks daily for two days, each is estimated at a maximum of 7 points, the total maximum of 42 points.

Last year, the Ukrainian team won two silver and three bronze medals, but was left without gold. The official rating of the country was not made public, but as a result it could be attributed to the group between 20 and 30 places in the world.
