Foreign Minister Iran Abbas Aragchi on Tuesday, April 8, confirmed that Tehran and Washington would hold a new round of negotiations, but he stressed that the meeting would not be direct, as ex-President Donald Trump said. The negotiations are scheduled for Saturday, April 12, and will be held in the capital, mascot.
"Iran and the United States will meet in Oman on Saturday for indirect negotiations at a high level," Aragchi wrote on the social network X (former Twitter), noting that the format of negotiations does not imply direct contact between representatives of the two states.
The diplomat called the negotiations "Both opportunities and a test", emphasizing that much depends on the actions of the United States. "The ball on the field of America," he added.
These negotiations are expected to relate to a wide range of issues, including Iran's nuclear program, regional security, sanctions removing and restoring trust between the two parties.
Earlier, Donald Trump stated that "direct negotiations" were preparing between Iran and the US, but the words of the expression have caused indignation in Iranian diplomacy. The official Tehran has repeatedly emphasized that direct negotiations are possible only if certain conditions are met - above all, the abolition of unilateral sanctions against Iran.
