Iceland has joined two international coalitions that provide assistance to Ukraine

Iceland has joined two international coalitions supporting Ukraine – the IT Coalition and the Mine Action Coalition. This was reported by the press service of the Icelandic government.

In addition, Iceland undertook to provide 340,000 euros through NATO structures for the purchase of medical supplies for the needs of Ukraine.

"By joining the Coalition on Information Technology and Demining and by providing additional funding for a comprehensive aid package to Ukraine, we continue our non-lethal support to Ukraine, which is fighting the unjust and illegal invasion of Russia," said the head of the country's Foreign Ministry, Bjarni Benediktson.

It is noted that the IT coalition currently includes countries such as Estonia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Japan, Latvia and Lithuania, and Italy and Great Britain are also planning to join.

Regarding relations between Ukraine and Iceland, although the latter is a member of NATO, it does not have its own army and is limited only to the coast guard. Nevertheless, Iceland supports Ukraine politically and humanitarianly, using mainly international organizations such as the UN, the World Bank and NATO to implement its assistance. Earlier this year, Iceland recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people and closed its embassy in Moscow, becoming the first country in Europe to take such a step.
