The Government of Ukraine has begun preparation for the next heating season. According to the results of the Cabinet of Ministers meeting, which took place on Friday, May 30, a special headquarters was created to coordinate actions to ensure stable heat and electricity supply in winter. Prime Minister Denis Shmigal has informed about it in his telegram channel.
Viceremier-Minister for Recovery-Minister of Community and Territories Alexei Kuleb will head the headquarters. The main tasks of the newly created body will be to coordinate actions between central and local authorities, formation of regional and city headquarters, prompt solution to problematic issues, as well as monitoring the state of training of housing and communal services.
"The goal is to guarantee people light and warmth of the next winter," Shmigal emphasized.
According to the prime minister, Ukraine has already taken significant steps in the direction of energy training. In May, the volume of gas pumped to underground storage facilities exceeded the indicators of the same period last year by 40%. In addition, 130 MW of cogeneration installation capacity and 250 MW of thermal capacity of block-module boilers have already been commissioned. In total, the government plans to connect more than 900 MW of such capacities in 2025.
Also, the Fund of Ukraine's Energy Support has now accumulated more than 1.1 billion euros of contributions. These funds will be aimed at purchasing power equipment for the restoration and modernization of infrastructure.
The creation of the headquarters is a response to threats associated with martial law and constant attacks on critical infrastructure, as well as the need to ensure the reliable functioning of life support systems in conditions of possible energy instability.
