Canada is introducing a limit on the number of temporary residents for the first time in history

In Canada, for the first time in the history of the country, it is planned to establish restrictions on the number of temporary residents. This will be especially true of foreign students, employees and asylum seekers, including refugees from Ukraine.

Canada Minister, Mark Miller, announced it. According to him, the number of temporary residents will be reduced over the next three years, and the first restrictions will enter into force in September this year.

Canada plans to reduce the number of temporary residents by up to 5% of the total population (now 6.2% in the country). Mark Miller noted that there was a sharp increase in the number of temporary residents in Canada. According to 2024, 2.5 million such people live in the country.

Canadian enterprises have to reduce the number of temporary foreign workers by May 1 as part of a new policy. This rule has two exceptions: construction sector workers and health care workers.

This restriction is considered a significant step in Canada's policy, which has historically supported open immigration to fill vacancies and solve the problem of rapid aging of labor.

The tendency to return to Ukraine among Ukrainian refugees abroad has decreased. Over the past one and a half years, their number has decreased from approximately 50% to 26%.
