Cyprus defines plans to join the Schengen area

The accession of Cyprus to the Schengen area and the implementation of the visa-free regime program have become the key tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country for the next year. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos on November 22, presenting the strategic plan of his department for 2024.

Kombos revealed details of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' budget for 2024, which is €112 million and represents an increase of 8.9%, or €9.1 million, compared to the previous year. This increase is related to the future presidency of Cyprus in the Council of the EU. The minister emphasized that this presidency is both a challenge and an opportunity for the country.

In addition, Kombos defined key aspects of foreign policy, focusing on protecting the Republic of Cyprus at all costs, creating favorable conditions for the reunification of the island and taking advantage of EU membership. He emphasized the importance of expanding regional multilateralism by concluding new tripartite agreements and positively positioning the country in the international arena.
