Every fifth Ukrainian plans to emigrate after the opening of the borders

According to a survey conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and Razumkov Center, in the event of full opening of borders, 20.7% of Ukrainians are ready to leave the country for permanent residence abroad. At the same time, most respondents (70%) want to stay in Ukraine, and 9.3% have not yet decided on their intentions.

  1. Gender differences:
    • Men want to leave 25%, while women - 17%.
  2. Age groups:
    • The highest percentage of those who want to emigrate among young people aged 18-29 years is 33%.
    • Among people aged 60+, this figure is much lower - only 9%.
  3. The main reasons for departure:
    • Lack of opportunities for development — 30,5%.
    • Threat to life through hostilities — 28,6%.
    • Low social support from the state — 28,6%.
    • Reunion with native abroad — 26,2%.

The survey was conducted in territories controlled by the Government of Ukraine, where there are no fighting. The study was attended by 1518 respondents from the age of 18, using the Face-To-Face method.
