Recently, the Russian media reported the arrest of Andrei Belkov, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry of Defense, on charges of corruption related to procurement. This company, established in 2019, originally received praise from former Defense Minister Sergei Shoig for the effectiveness of internal and external audit. However, it turned out that it was used to enrich corrupt Russian officials.
In addition, on July 23, 2024, a court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced the former director of the Star Strel tactical missile tactical missiles to prison for theft and overestimation of prices. Corruption in the defense industry of Russia is widespread. The audit conducted in 2007 at the then Minister of Defense Sergei Ivanov showed that 70% of the budget resources of the Ministry of Defense were not used as intended. The former Deputy Minister of Defense Dmitry Bulgakov for corruption was also detained in Russia. Analysts of the Institute for War Study (ISW) note that since April 2024, the Kremlin has continued to increase efforts to eliminate the High -Defense Ministry of Defense.
In April this year, Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov was arrested on charges of receiving a bribe in a particularly large amount. The Moscow Basmanny sent Ivanov to the pre -trial detention center by June 23, and arrested the second person involved in the case of Sergei Borodin.
