The Chinese option before the Peace Summit, Beijing's proposals regarding the situation in Ukraine

China refused to participate in the June 15-16 Summit on a Peace Plan for Ukraine, instead actively lobbying for its alternative plan among other countries. This was reported by ten diplomats, one of whom characterized these actions as a "disguised boycott" of the global meeting in Switzerland.

China, which is supported by Russia, is not participating in the conference because of shortcomings regarding Moscow's participation, but has not openly criticized the summit itself to developing countries. Instead, Beijing has stepped up its information campaign, urging other countries to join its six-point plan proposed with Brazil in May.

Diplomats said many developing countries are considering supporting China's plan. Currently, China continues to appeal to Western countries to support its interests.

A Chinese foreign ministry official did not respond to requests for comment on its lobbying efforts, but said last week that China hoped for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine without using the summit as a platform for geopolitical confrontations.
