Ukraine reacted to China's initiative to hold a peace summit with the participation of Russia, expressing its thoughts and position regarding possible negotiations.
The initiative, voiced by the head of foreign policy of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi, includes the support of 26 countries for the Chinese plan to end the war in Ukraine and a call for Russia's participation in the negotiations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on China to participate in the Swiss "peace summit", where Beijing refused to go because of the absence of Russia. And they reproached the People's Republic of China for often holding high-level meetings with Moscow.
"The participation of a high representative of the People's Republic of China in the summit could be a good opportunity to make a practical contribution to achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, restoring its territorial integrity. Against the background of the four summits between China and the aggressor state Russia at the level of leaders that have taken place since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, this was an important signal of China's balanced position," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Ukrainian diplomats also stated that only Ukraine "must determine what peace should be."
"The only fair basis for achieving such peace is the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi," the ministry added.
