The Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak has negotiated with European partners on a new, 18th EU sanctions package against the Russian Federation. The main attention during online conversation was focused on the need to increase pressure on Russia and strengthen the Ukraine air defense system.
Yermak reported this on June 9 in his Telegram channel, emphasizing the priorities of the Ukrainian side. In particular, Kyiv urges the EU to include in the new sanction package restrictions on the banking and energy sectors of the Russian Federation, as well as sanctions against the tanker fleet and the imposition of secondary sanctions for countries and companies that help Moscow to circumvent existing restrictions.
"It is important for Ukraine that the 18th EU sanctions package includes restrictions on the banking and energy sectors of the Russian Federation, the tanker fleet and provides secondary sanctions," Yermak emphasized.
In addition to sanctions, the issue of strengthening Ukrainian air defense was discussed, especially given the increase in the intensity of Russian missile attacks in Ukraine.
The negotiations were attended by advisers to northern Europe, the Baltic States, as well as representatives of the European Council, the European Commission and the EU Chief Diplomat Josep Borrel.
The parties also discussed the preparation of three key international events: the G7 summit in Canada, the NATO Summit in the Hague and the EU Summit, where Ukraine's security issues and new support measures will play a leading role.
