Fatal cases from influenza and Covid-19 among non-vaccinated Ukrainians

In Ukraine, the epidemic season of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (SARS) continues. Last week, more than 240 thousand people became ill with these diseases, of whom nearly 125 thousand children. Despite the fact that the number of cases is 10.7% lower than the previous week, the situation remains tense. About it reports the Center for Public Health (CGZ).

During the reporting period, 14 fatal cases were recorded among patients with influenza. As noted in the CGZ, all the dead did not have preventive vaccinations against influenza. This again confirms the importance of vaccination, which is able to prevent serious complications and reduce the risk of mortality among the infected.

In addition to influenza cases, 474 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered last week. Two fatal cases were recorded among them, and both patients did not have preventive vaccinations for the last 12 months.

The intensive incidence of SARS, including Covid-19, is 667.1 per 100,000 population. This corresponds to the average level of excess of the epidemic threshold designed for Ukraine. Despite a slight decrease in the number of patients, the epidemic continues to threaten the health of the population.

An important part of epidemiological control is laboratory tests. According to the CGZ, 1555 samples of materials from patients from health care facilities were collected as part of routine and sentiological supervision. Flies of influenza viruses of different types, including a not subtyped, A (H1) PDM09, A (H3) and B, were found in 766 samples.

Experts emphasize the importance of influenza and COVID-19 vaccination. Vaccination remains the most effective means of preventing serious cases of illness and mortality. Vaccination is especially recommended for people at risk, including elderly people, children, pregnant women and persons with chronic diseases.

The Center for Public Health calls for citizens to contact vaccinations and reminds you of the need to comply with standard prevention measures: regular hand washing, wearing masks in public places and avoiding contact with patients.

The epidemiological situation in Ukraine remains serious, so you should follow the recommendations of doctors and get vaccinated in a timely manner.
