The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has laid its mission at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) due to the lack of proper security guarantees from Russia. This was stated by a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Georgy Tykhy on February 5.
According to the quiet, the rejection of rotation was the result of the blackmail that the Kremlin performs against international experts in the IAEA, trying to superstitify their independence. He recalled that during previous rotations, Russia had already carried out aggression acts, in particular, struck a drone on the IAEA car.
The quiet explained that Moscow has two main goals in the pressure on the IAEA: to force the international community to recognize the illegal occupation of the Ukrainian NPP and manipulate the situation around the station to achieve its political goals.
Ukraine appreciates the IAEA's work in conditions that have no analogues in the world and emphasizes the need to support the independence of the agency. The quiet emphasized that Ukraine would not allow Russia to undermine the authority and independence of the IAEA for its criminal purposes.
He also once again reminded that the occupation of Zaporizhzhya NPP is illegal and poses a serious threat to the nuclear security incident. Only the return of the station in Ukraine will restore nuclear security in accordance with the rules and standards of the IAEA.
