Mayor of London, Sadik Khan, decided to support the idea of transferring all -wheel drive vehicles to Ukraine through the disposal scheme, which was asked by Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko. Earlier, he gave up this idea, but changed his decision under the influence of the public and the media campaign.
The mayor of London asked the Transport Minister Mark Garper to provide the Londoners and citizens across the country to sacrifice to Ukraine through the disposal scheme. This happens in the context of Ulez scheme, which aims to improve the quality of air in London, demanding from the owners of vehicles with high emissions to pay the collection.
Initially, the mayor refused to transfer the car to Ukraine, claiming that it would not be useful for London in environmental, economic and social views. However, under the pressure of the public and the media campaign, he changed his position and expressed support for the idea of transferring a car to Ukraine.
The previous mayor of London, Boris Johnson, considered the refusal to transfer cars to Ukraine "petty and funny", urging to support Ukrainians in confrontation of threat from President Putin.
"Ukrainians are more than capable of solving air quality problems themselves, they need help to defeat a threat that is much more dangerous, and this is President Putin. Khan's actions seem extraordinary," Johnson said.
