The mayor of London, Sadik Khan, rejected the request of Kyivans to transfer cars that the inhabitants of the British capital passed within the framework of the program of combating harmful emissions. About it reports The Telegraph.
In London, the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) (Ulez) operates in which car owners can receive a one -time payment of £ 2000 if they decide to hand over their old cars for disposal because of their inconsistency with environmental requirements. Otherwise, they should pay a daily fee of £ 12.5.
September of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, appealed to Sadik Khan to transfer part of the car deducted for disposal of car. Klitschko indicated that it could have "huge potential" and lead to improving life and transportation.
Mayor London's response came on December 12, and he refused to perform this request, claiming that such a step did not meet the "legal threshold", the requirements of the Ulez program, which should benefit the Londoners from "economic, social and environmental view".
Khan's decision has already caused criticism. The candidate for London mayor, Susan Hall, and a participant in the Car for Ukraine initiative, Richard Lofthaus, expressed their disagreement with the refusal to convey a car to Ukraine and believe that such a step could have a positive impact on different spheres of Ukrainian society.
