Millions can die from AIDS without the help of US

Reducing the financing of HIV/AIDS programs by the United States can have catastrophic consequences for world health. According to the United UN/AIDS Program (UNESDS), if there are no measures in the near future, 6.3 million people may die for four years from AIDS -related diseases.

According to 8.7 million new infections are also informed of the UNESHDS Director Winnie Bianima. She stressed that the sudden decline in funding has led to the closure of numerous clinics, the dismissal of thousands of health workers, including doctors, nurses and laboratory assistants, which significantly complicates the fight against the epidemic.

According to official data, in 2023, about 40 million people lived in the world with HIV. In the same year, 1.3 million people became infected with the virus and 630,000 died of AIDS -related diseases. The countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, where such programs are vital, will be affected by the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The situation is also complicated by the fact that the governments of other countries have not yet found a willingness to compensate for the lack of funds. Bianima believes that even if the United States is renewed in April after watching the program, many medical centers may not resume work because of new requirements made by the US government.

According to UNESDS Director, even if the US intends to gradually reduce their help, it should be done with caution and clear transition. "Sudden termination of rescue assistance has a devastating impact on countries, especially in Africa, as well as in Asia and Latin America," she said.

Against the background of global health challenges, this decision of the United States can cause a new wave of mortality and spreading HIV, which will jeopardize the decade of combating the epidemic. The UNUDS urges the international community to respond urgently to the situation and to prevent a large -scale humanitarian crisis.
